César A. Rodríguez-Garavito is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology. He was a professor of law in his native country, Colombia, before deciding to pursue a doctorate. He has been active in Latin American NGO and human rights circles, as a researcher for the Latin American Institute for Alternative Legal Services (ILSA) and as a founding member of the Center for the Study of Law, Justice, and Society. His research focuses on institutional designs and political strategies capable of regulating the global economy in the direction of increased equity and accountability, especially in areas such as labor rights and financial markets. The Scott Kloeck-Jenson award will help him to work as an intern for the Center for Social and Legal Studies (CELS) in Buenos Aires in order to gain practitioner experience that will enhance his dissertation work on the effects of financial globalization on social rights.
