Amy Quark is a graduate student in Sociology. Having grown up on a farm in Saskatchewan, Amy has a vested interest in studying the effects of globalization on the agrofood system and on the livelihoods of agricultural producers. In addition to conducting research in rural communities in Saskatchewan and Wisconsin, Amy has also worked as an intern at the United Nations Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights, developing sub-regional human rights strategies for West and Central Africa and has worked as a field volunteer for a women-led ecotourism project in Costa Rica. For her dissertation project, Amy will conduct a multi-sited ethnography in order to analyze the changing opportunities and constraints facing cotton traders under new WTO trade regulations. The Scott Kloeck-Jenson award will fund pre-dissertation travel to investigate potential research sites and develop contacts with farmers, producer organizations, and government representatives in Benin.
