Isabel Pike is a graduate student in the Sociology department at UW-Madison. Affiliated with UW’s Center for Demography and Ecology, her research interests include marriage, family and fertility trends in Sub-Saharan Africa. Isabel graduated from Princeton University in 2011, majoring in Anthropology. Her undergraduate thesis was on the practice of bride price in Uganda, where she grew up. Before starting her graduate studies at UW-Madison, Isabel worked for three years with the World Food Programme as a Reports Officer in Senegal, Burkina Faso and Mali. This summer, Isabel will be interning at the African Population Health Research Center (APHRC) in Kenya, where she will be working on various projects with the center’s data from Nairobi slums, including one on young adolescents’ gender norms and another on marriage trends among poor urban men.
