2001 SKJ Fellow

Oghenetoja Okoh is a graduate student in African History. Her graduate work focuses on the impact of the African diaspora, as a cultural force, on the historical development of Africa itself. In 1997 she did research in Nigeria for her honors senior thesis, which looked at the themes of exile and postcoloniality through African cultural producers like Fela, a popular Nigerian musician, and several well-known writers, who cross various national and cultural boundaries in order to sustain their work and their communities both at home and abroad. As a historian, Oghenetoja is interested in pushing the boundaries of Africa historical scholarship, as well as developing a dynamic paradigm for African diaspora studies.
