Lili Liang is a doctoral student in sociology. She previously conducted research on higher education in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong Province in China. She examined how the recent enrollment expansion in Chinese higher education affected college graduate employment. For her Master’s, she studied the so-called “Ant Tribe” college graduates in Shanghai and experienced their precarious living conditions first-hand when she lived with 36 women in a 3-bedroom rental. With the Scott Kloeck-Jenson Fellowship, Lili will study how middle-class households in Shanghai invest in their children’s education.
