Chaitanya Lakkimsetti

Credentials: India

Address:
2005 SKJ Fellow

Chaitanya Lakkimsetti is a graduate student in Sociology. Before coming to UW-Madison, she spent several years working with feminist and civil rights movements in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Her dissertation focuses on women’s participation in an underground guerrilla movement in South India. Her proposed project has two components: an ethnographic study of the armed resistance against the backdrop of social theory and an exploration of gender roles, identities, and ideologies within the movement. This summer, Chaitanya will use the Scott Kloeck-Jenson fellowship to conduct pre-dissertation research in South India, meeting with feminist scholars and social movement representatives in order to set the stage for her future dissertation field research.
