Martina Kunovic was born in Zagreb, Croatia, raised in Toronto, Canada, and studied in London, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec, before coming to Madison, Wisconsin to pursue a doctorate in sociology. Along the way, Havana, Cuba, captured her personal and academic interest, and this is where she will be carrying out the Scott Kloeck-Jenson International Internship, as well as her dissertation research. Martina will be hosted by the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencies Sociales (FLACSO), an interdisciplinary research center that works to promote human-centered development. She will be working on a project about how the large-scale, state-led economic changes underway in Cuba are taking shape in the lives of Cuban families, and women in particular.
