Stephanie Koning is a graduate student in population health and sociology at University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently engaged in research with colleagues at UW as well as the United Nations, on health and social justice issues regarding migrant and indigenous populations in the US and in Southeast Asia. Stephanie was awarded a Scott Kloeck-Jensen Fellowship to further develop her dissertation research on reproductive health among marginalized populations living in the Thai-Myanmar border region. She will pair existing survey data that she has helped collect in the area with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, along with new survey and ethnographic research in order to determine the critical mechanisms through which observed barriers to reproductive health and HIV prevention have persisted in particular minority communities and how these barriers can be overcome.
