Erin Kitchell is a master’s student in Geography with a BA in History from Rhodes College. Prior to coming to UW-Madison as a graduate student, she spent four years working on community-based public health and environmental projects in Senegal and Mali. Her academic interests include land-use planning in pastoral zones, local responses to climate risk in the Sahel, and the role of social learning in decision-making about environmental issues. Erin will complete an internship in Senegal with the Center for Environmental Monitoring, a public association established under the Ministry for the Protection of the Environment. She will collaborate with program officers and field staff to use longstanding local management practices to inform CSE’s participatory land-use planning in the region.
