Dimitri Kessler is a graduate student in Sociology. He lived in Taiwan for a year and studied a year of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in California before he decided to pursue a doctorate. As a sociologist, Dimitri has focused his research on labor issues concerning Asia. In 1999, he conducted his Masters Thesis on Asian labor migration to Hawaii, and demonstrated how governments, plantation owners and laborers struggled to determine the proportion of men and women migrating to the islands. Dimitri is currently researching alternative models of international labor monitoring for the Workers’ Rights Consortium and hopes to contribute to efforts that foster international economic equity. He will conduct his dissertation research in China to examine the influence of multinational corporations on Communist-led labor reforms.
