Rachel Jacobs is a doctoral student in political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison focusing on political violence and post-conflict politics. Her project addresses the social legacies of conflict, the effects of wartime governance, and the origins of uneasy peace in Cambodia. She is interested in the ways that informal norms limit the implementation formal polices, which can undermine durable peace through the everyday experiences of life in a post-conflict society. Before coming to Madison, she was a research analyst on issues of democratization and human rights. She also holds an M.A. in international relations from the University of Chicago and received an A.B. in government and Asian studies at Cornell University in 2010 where she first became interested in issues of political violence and Southeast Asian politics.
