Address:
2013 SKJ Fellow

Annabel Ipsen is a doctoral student pursuing a degree in Sociology. She completed her MA in Latin American Studies at the University of New Mexico in 2000 and subsequently worked in diverse development-related jobs for nine years in Latin America. Annabel’s dissertation research will use the case of the global seed industry to address questions about knowledge-intensive agriculture and its relationship to skill, labor offshoring and employment conditions in Chile and the U.S. She will be working as an intern at the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Santiago, Chile in the Fall of 2013. The ILO is a United Nations agency that brings together government representatives, employers and workers to shape policies to promote decent work. Annabel will use this opportunity to combine her academic interests with the research/program experience of the ILO to better understand vulnerable employment in the agricultural sector. Annabel hopes that her work will leverage support for policy changes that improve work conditions in agriculture.
