Qing He

Credentials: China

Address:
2013 SKJ Fellow

Qing He is a PhD student in cultural anthropology at UW – Madison, with a BA in journalism from Nanjing University. Prior to coming to UW-Madison, she worked as an editor for Travel+Leisure China based in Shanghai for several years. She has been writing columns for the Chinese media and has published four novels. Qing has been concerned about social stratification and morality in post-socialist China since she became a journalist. Her current interest is how pervasive food safety problems in China affect not only human health, but public perception of trust, happiness and equality. With the generous help of the Scott Kloeck-Jenson Fellowship, she will conduct pre-dissertation fieldwork in Chongqing, China, to study the disparities among different social groups in their understandings of and coping tactics towards food safety.

You can learn more Qing and her work that summer from her post-Fellowship report.
