Joseph Harris is a doctoral student in Sociology and holds a Master’s in Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. His dissertation research examines the adoption and implementation of universal health care programs in South Africa and Thailand. Previously, he has worked with various development organizations, ranging from the World Bank, Grameen Foundation, and the United Nations Development Programme to small non-profits in Northern Thailand. His work has appeared in the Wisconsin State-Journal, Bangkok Post, the Asia Times Online, The Globalist, and the Journal of Peacebuilding and Development. This fall, he plans to use his SKJ grant to travel to South Africa for exploratory research on the country’s health care system. His studies at the University of Wisconsin have been supported through a University Fellowship and two academic year FLAS fellowships. Following his time in South Africa, he plans to begin research in Thailand on a Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Award.
