Michelle Gooch is working on her MS in Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development within the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. She received her BS in Biology from Davidson College in North Carolina. A Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellow, Michelle is interested in the interface between sustainable development, social justice, and biodiversity conservation in the developing world, especially East Africa. Her professional goals include working in either academia or a non-profit international conservation and development setting. Michelle will work as an intern this summer with A Rocha Kenya, an environmental non-profit in coastal Kenya. She will gain practical experience evaluating conservation and development programs in poverty-stricken communities surrounding a protected forest.
