Summary of Madison Activities

In a conversation moderated by University of Wisconsin-Madison professor Lindsay Palmer, Pulitzer Center grantees Fredrick Mugira and Ejiro Umukoro discussed their experiences covering two crises in Africa—water access in the Nile Basin and gender-based violence in Nigeria, respectively—in the midst of another crisis: the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar, entitled “Reporting on a Crisis: COVID-19 Journalism in Africa,” was a collaboration with the University of Wisconsin, one of the Center’s Campus Consortium partners, and part of Africa at Noon, an ongoing series by the university’s African Studies Program.

Ejiro’s Biography

Ejiro Umukoro is a multi-award-winning broadcaster and investigative journalist. She was nominated for ICFJ Knights Award and was an Awardee and Fellow of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Reporting Women Leadership Program, WanaData MVP 2018, and Winner of British Council International Communications Entrepreneur (IYXE) representing Nigeria at the Global Awards in the UK. She has been interviewed by BBC London in the UK, Daily Trust, Media Career Development Network, and Pointer Newspaper. Umukoro has served as a Mentor with the ICIR-MacArthur Foundation Capacity Building for Journalists, and the Pioneer General Manager of MEGA 89.1FM, Warri.
