2014 SKJ Fellow

Jordan Baskerville is a graduate student in the department of Languages and Cultures of Asia focusing on religions of Asia. He completed a BA in philosophy and religion at Oregon State University, where he developed an interest in understanding and articulating the intersections of religious practice and social engagement. Following his undergraduate studies, he traveled extensively throughout South and Southeast Asia before beginning graduate studies at UW-Madison. He currently studies Asian religions, with particular attention on Buddhist social engagement in Thailand and Vietnam. This summer Jordan will use his SKJ fellowship in Thailand to investigate the genesis, development and current state of the transnational socially engaged Buddhist movement in Southeast Asia. He will explore possible research sites and identify potential NGOs and other Buddhist related organizations relevant for studying the impact and practice of socially engaged Buddhist ideas.
