Puttaporn Areeprachakun is a graduate student in the department of Geography on human geography: Burmese migrant laborers in Thai society. She completed a BA in Geography at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, where she developed an interest in understanding the relationship between human, society and space. Following her undergraduate studies, she went to UK to study Master degree in Human Geography at University of Bristol in UK. Following her master studies, she worked as a lecturer in the department of geography at Chulalongkorn University and then received a scholarship from the Royal Thai Government to study Ph.D. in geography at University of Wisconsin-Madison. She currently works on the concepts of migration, labors, space and racism. This summer Puttaporn will use her SKJ fellowship in Thailand to develop her dissertation research. She will investigate how Mahachai, a Burmese community in Thailand, has been produced and how Burmese migrant workers feel Mahachai.
