Join us for a book club with Ger Thao, author of the book The Hmong Journey: Hmoob Txoj Kev Taug.
Ger Thao is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education: Curriculum & Instruction Specialization at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Thao has taught for eight years as an elementary school teacher and as an ELA Intervention Specialist/ELD Coordinator. A speaker of both Hmong/English, she serves as a consultant/former Program Coordinator for the Hmong Language and Culture Enrichment Program (HLCEP) in Madison.
Thao authored the bilingual children’s picture book The Hmong Journey: Hmoob Txoj Kev Taug (2018) and Hmoob Txoj Kev Taug (2020, Hmong version), which shares her family’s story and the historical/cultural context of the Hmong and serves to empower students to see themselves in stories and books and be proud of their identity.
Teachers should read The Hmong Journey: Hmoob Txoj Kev Taug by Ger Thao before attending this online event.
The first 25 Wisconsin K-12 public school teachers who register for this event will receive a copy of the book.
This event is co-sponsored by Center for Southeast Asian Studies, UW-Madison.
