The Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium (WGSC) 2024 Spring Conference will feature a special panel with Dr. Fabu Carter, Dr. Wanjiku Kabira, and Lilada Gee on  the state of feminism worldwide and where it’s future may lead. This event is free and open to the public, no prior registration required. 

The Panelists:

  • Dr. Fabu Carter is a Senior Outreach Specialist with the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and works for the African American and Native American Communities. She is also a poet, columnist, storyteller, and educator who writes under the professional name of Fabu. Madison Poet Laureate (2008-2012), she received her PhD in African Women’s Studies from the University of Nairobi and is an award-winning poet of 7 books.
  • Dr. Wanjiku Kabir is a Professor of Literature at the University of Nairobi in Nairobi Kenya. She is the Director of the African Women Studies Center at the University of Nairobi and completed her PhD in Literature at the University of Nairobi in 1994.
  • Lilada Gee is an artist, healer, author, international speaker, life coach and podcast host. Drawing upon her own experiences as a survivor of both childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence, Lilada founded a non-profit organization, Defending Black Girlhood (DBG). DBG is committed to insuring that Black girls are safe in their homes, schools and faith communities to live, learn and be loved.
