Ethical Fashion- Local Access, Global Impact

Join us for our online October Film Club event with Nikki Anderson who will present on making ethical fashion accessible on a local level.

Inspired by the quote  “You must be the change you wish to see in the world”, Nikki Anderson founded her retail store, Change Fair Trade Fashion Boutique in Madison, Wisconsin.

Since opening in 2012, Change Boutique has become a valuable resource to both the local community and to the artisans in developing countries that produce the clothing, jewelry and accessories that they sell. By providing an alternative to purchasing sweat-shop produced garments, Change has made ethical fashion more accessible in Madison.

Prior to the event, participants should view the documentary film The True Cost, available online.

“This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make those clothes and the impact it’s having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on an untold story and asks us each to consider, who pays the price for our clothing?”

All registered participants will receive access to a digital resources folder.

This event is cosponsored by 4W Initiative – Women & Wellbeing in Wisconsin & the World and CALS Global, UW-Madison.
