Jonathan Patz, MD, MPH, will discuss the health impacts climate change is having on global communities, especially focusing on climate solutions and health interventions that could represent the greatest health opportunity of our lifetime, which would result in enormous health benefits. Dr. Patz will highlight the positive effects of climate policy interventions, and the potential benefits of adopting such interventions on a global scale.
Dr. Patz is Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor and the John P. Holton Chair of Health and the Environment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and served as inaugural director of UW-Madison’s Global Health Institute.
In addition to serving as Health Co-Chair for the first-ever US National Climate Assessment, Dr. Patz served for 15 years as Lead Author for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)—the organization that shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
Dr. Patz currently directs the NIH-sponsored Center for Health, Energy and Environmental Research (CHEER) and has researched climate change/health since 1996 (EPA STAR award) followed by subsequent grants from NOAA, NASA, NSF and NIH.
