Seeking Applicants for Spring 2024 Graduate Student Project Assistant

The Institute for Regional and International Studies National Resource Center (IRIS NRC), a unit in the UW-Madison’s Institute for Regional and International Studies (IRIS), and part of the International Division, has an opening for a .5 FTE graduate student project assistant for the Spring Semester 2024. IRIS NRC will hire this 50% Project Assistant for a semester-long appointment, beginning January 4, 2024, and ending May 19, 2024. Some work may be performed remotely.

As the Project Assistant appointment will be at 50%, it requires 20 hours of work per week, with compensation at the standard 50% PA level and full tuition remission and other assistantship benefits. PA pay rate is calculated on the basis of $46,460 at 50% time. The stipend for this appointment will be c. $1,191.28 per pay period. The stipend will be prorated for any partial pay period.

Position Summary/Job Duties: Project Assistant for IRIS NRC

Event planning & promotion, including content planning and logistics. Aiding other staff with publicity via social media, maintaining the cork board, posting flyers around campus, updating the IRIS NRC website, and communication with participants. Event tasks include:

Before events: Social media promotion, adding events to IRIS NRC web calendar and today.wisc.edu calendar, maintaining the public facing cork board, and posting flyers around campus.
During Events: Help managing zoom room and waiting room, help managing in-person events and venues. Take attendance.
Post event work including data collection and related tasks: Record-keeping on airtable, help analyzing survey and post event data to get some trends and program assessment.

IRIS NRC communication, including crafting compelling content on multiple platforms to inform campus and off-campus constituencies of activities, opportunities, and events in international studies. Tasks include preparation of monthly newsletter, managing Facebook and twitter accounts, assisting IRIS NRC Assistant Director with website maintenance, and updating content.

Project: Create a user-friendly video and resource library for the IRIS NRC website and youtube channel, create shorter video clips from existing recorded events to share on social media and other platforms.

JUIS: Assist with the Journal of Undergraduate International Studies.

Reporting: Assist with application, reporting, and compliance of external research grants, including careful compilation of data for entry into online reporting systems.

Other administrative work as assigned.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Writing social media copy
  • Graphic design using Canva or other software
  • Experience with Airtable software
  • Editing websites in WordPress
